Australia Days 3 & 4

we were originally planning on going on a winery tour on saturday but all the tours were booked up, and it was raining pretty much the whole day so we got a spot on the sunday afternoon tour. so we decided to go into perth to pick up our race packets and take a look around. we stopped in at a place called didgeridoo breath to take a look at their didgeridoos because mike had wanted to pick one up for his wife. a didgeridoo is an australian aborigonal instrument that is made from eucalyptus trees that have been hollowed out by termites, they are then tweaked a bit and decorated and ready to play. the guys that worked there were awesome! they were total stoners that were really passionate about playing the didge! they taught us how to play and were giving us compliments like "awww yeah bro, that's wickkkked", "sounds awwwesome, do it agaaiiiin", "yeahhhhh that's siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!". so we decided that we all wanted to buy a didge but we didn't wanna carry them around all day so we would stop back by on the way home.

so we got on the train and headed up to perth to pick up our race packets and we didn't really know where we were going but luckily the place we had to go was right next to the train station! we picked up our packets and decided to go grab some lunch. we went to a place called bd's which was the 1st microbreweries in the city. mike ordered a plate with kangaroo, crocodile and emu(big flightless bird like an ostrich) sausage. all of them were pretty good and the kangaroo tasted alot like beef!

we went back to freemantle and stopped by and bought our didges. that night we decided to try to go back to little creatures and told mike that he wasn't allowed to drink before we went this time! little creatures was an awesome place! a big warehouse type resturant/brewery made a cool setting with all of the massive brewing equipment and the food was amazing!

the next day we got up and drove into perth for the race. there was soooooo many people there, i think they said they had over 10,000 participants! it was a pretty short race so it wasn't too strenuous or anything, but there were a couple hills that were kinda killer. it was pretty cool that the race ended in a cricket stadium!

we headed back down to the hotel to get showered up and ready for our afternoon winery tour. on the way we stopped by gino's for some breaky(what the aussies call breakfast), i got a delicious bagel sandwich that had bacon, avocado, and fried egg! mmmmm i want one right now!!

during the winery tour, we had stops scheduled for 3 wineries, a nougat and chocolate factory, and a german brewery. the wineries gave us plenty of wine to taste and plenty of good food to eat along the way! the chocolate and the nougat factories had some good samples for us as well. the tour was awesome and our group was all pretty friendly and made the afternoon pretty enjoyable, or maybe it was all the wine and beer! here's some pics from the tour!
