Don's Blog: 3 1/2 hours i will never get back!

hmmmm, the final game of the season was probably the worst one i've seen this year! but that's ok, the rainbows finish off the season with 31-23 record and a spot in the upcoming wac tournament. i didn't go to saturday's post graduation game and i am glad that i didn't because they got spanked, and i figured they would be pissed and wanna do some spankin themselves! not the case at all. the utah valley wolverines combined for a total of 10 runs on 18 hits and 8 walks, completely owning six pitchers from the uh squad! Horrrrrrrible... my hot dog and my beer was good though! there were some pretty horrible calls on the field on top of the home plate umpire having a pretty tight strike zone. in the 4th, kolten steps up to the plate and takes the first pitch pretty far inside that clearly looked like a ball, it was called a strike and kolt stepped out of the box to gain his composure and the umpire walked up to him and gestured that he get back into the batters box. kind of an a-hole move after you just make a crappy call. so kolt steps in and smashes the next pitch over the right field fence(i don't think the ball landed yet) and it definately looked like it cleared the fence in fair territory(i saw it and started cheering along with the rest of the stadium) but after much hesitation from the 1st base ump, was ruled foul. i guess the home plate umpire knew it was a junk call and immediately ran up the line to kolten in anticipation for some drama to unfold, and it seemed to me he was just messing with kolt and that pissed off coach mike pretty bad. he ran out there to dispute the call and probably tell the umpire to stop messing with his players, but he lost that arguement and we left 2 runners stranded after a ground out. then in the 7th, utah's cole anderson crushes one to left that was in foul territory before it even passed the left fielder and what was that call???? 3-run homer!!!! wow, the crowd went nuts!!!! a guy a couple seats from me took off his prescription glasses and threw them on the field for the umpires to use!!!!! probably one of the funniest things i have ever seen at a baseball game!!! coach mike ran out again and argued the call and this time and the home plate umpire overturned the call and called it foul!!!! (good thing, after the crowds reaction, i wouldn't have been suprised to hear about a stolen vehicle being found on fire in maile somewhere). it was an awesome season though, had tons of fun going to all the games and seeing players develop and some slump, but all in all a good season. we have to face the louisiana tech bulldogs this thursday to start off the wac tournament, they are a hard hitting squad with some decent pitching if i remember correctly. here are a couple shots from the game!
